The Chair of the English Language and Literature,formerly named as ‘The Chair of English Phonetics’, was founded in 2005 on the 25th of August at the base of the English faculty which mainly was specialized in teaching Practical and Theoretical English Phonetics for bachelor students.

Since its foundation, the chair has been supervised bythree successions of representatives, namely Khusnia Mustafayeva (2005-2009), Akram Shermatov (2009-2013) and Gulchehra Obruyeva who has been coordinating the staff with the series of outstanding achievements since she was assigned as the head of the chair in September 2013.

In September 2017, the existing name of the chair was changed to ‘The Chair of the English Language and Literature’ which consequently altered the former specialization slightly into an upgraded one.

Today, the staff are concentrating its strength to increase the number of scientific researches in the field as well as prepare truly competitive and prestigious future specialists, a new generation of bachelor and master’s degree studentspossessing excellent knowledge and skills and alsomoral behaviors which one of the main principles of the education system of Uzbekistan.

TEACHING STAFF

The teaching staff consists of 30 skilled individuals who are the experts of their field. Among them 5 professors with (scientific) degrees: an associated professor, three candidates of philosophy and a doctor of philosophy.Abdullaeva Lyudmila, an associated professor of the chair, received the degree of a candidate of philosophy from Moscow State University in April 1982. Kulmamatov Dusmamat, part-time professor of the chair, was given the degree doctor of philosophy by Moscow State University of Pedagogy in May 1996.

Yarbekov Ulugbek, a senior teacher of the chair,as a team member of the international project TEMPUS (TEMPUS Project DeTEL 544161-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-UK-TEMPUS-JPCR Aston University), participated several training seminars and cooperative teaching at the partner instructions within the project.

It has been two years since a new TEMPUS Project (Tempus Project DeTEL 544161-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-UK-TEMPUS-JPCR Aston University) team launched its programmeto develop teaching European languages by modernising Language Teaching through the development of blended Masters Programmes on the 1st of December 2013. The general coordinator of the project Aston University of the UK and the partner universities from France (the University of Caen), Germany (Freiburg University), Russia (Voronezh State University, Tyumen State University, Yaroslavl State Pedagogical University, the Department of Education and Science), the Ukraine (Kiev National Linguistic University, National University of Nikolayev) and Uzbekistan (Uzbek State University of World Languages, Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages) are working on the creation of a new programme for MA degree which is targeted for online and face to face training the language teachers of all age groups beginning from primary schools.

The consortium of partner university members of the project meets at each partner university according to an adopted mobility programme to analyze the results of each work package. Besides, during the workshop sessions held at the partner university, the team decides the tasks to be fulfilled in next phase of the development of the programme.

In the last three years, the representatives of the chair have published 15 articles in foreign scientic journals, another 4 articles in the local journals and in scientific conference materials as well (the journal are considerd to be prestegeous which are included in the Supreme Comission of Scientific Researches of the Republic of Uzbekistan).
